In Rogachev, after complaints from local residents about a sharp unpleasant smell in the city's tap water, local authorities reacted to the situation, writes "Flagstock". Late in the evening on April 29, residents were informed via the district executive committee newspaper's social networks:
«Due to the presence of a foreign odor in the Rogachev water supply network, accredited laboratories of the Zhlobinvodokanal branch and the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology continue to monitor water quality. It is recommended to use water from the water supply networks for technical purposes. It is also recommended to use bottled water. Work is currently underway to flush the water supply network.»
The authorities also announced the delivery of drinking water and listed addresses.
Meanwhile, city residents described the situation more acutely on social networks.
«Water with a sharp smell of acetone is flowing from the tap; yesterday people started being admitted to the hospital with poisoning.»
«The water smells like paint. It still smells, despite official Viber messages claiming everything has been resolved. There is no water left in the stores. But tanker deliveries have been organized to various points in the city. Schools, kindergartens, and the hospital have been provided with bottled water. They cook there only with it, despite the sanitary station's assurances that everything is fine and the water can be drunk.»
The district newspaper also reported late in the evening that at the district executive committee headquarters, with the participation of responsible services, district head Aliaksandr Atrashchanka instructed to organize water delivery to educational and healthcare institutions on April 30 for cooking and their uninterrupted operation.
By noon on April 30, official information on the cause of the incident appeared from KPUP "Gomelvodokanal":
«Due to regulatory work on painting structural elements at the Rogachev water intake, which do not come into contact with water, the presence of a specific odor was detected in the water supplied to the city. Based on the results of the analyzes performed, a slight excess in the "Odor" parameter was established. For water quality control, the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, as well as the water utility, have organized regular water sample collection.»
It was also stated that «to eliminate the presence of the specific odor in the water, work has been carried out to neutralize the specific odor at the water intake — currently, the water quality at the outlet of the water intake complies with hygienic standards.»
Later, the district executive committee clarified that to eliminate the specific odor in the city's water supply networks, water utility brigades are carrying out flushing work, and an official investigation is currently underway to establish the causes and circumstances that led to this situation.
