Russia on the verge of running out of money: Budget deficit for 4 months exceeded annual forecast by 1.5 times
The Russian financial system has faced a serious test: according to data from the Russian Ministry of Finance, the hole in the state treasury grew to significant proportions in the first third of 2026 — about $80 billion at the current exchange rate. Government spending is so rapidly outstripping revenues that the annual deficit limit was consumed in just four months.
The situation looks critical for Russians: instead of the 3.8 trillion Russian rubles deficit planned for the entire year (about $52 billion at the current exchange rate), Russia has already incurred a deficit of 5.877 trillion Russian rubles (about $80 billion).

Federal budget revenues for January-April amounted to 11.7 trillion Russian rubles, expenditures — 17.6 trillion Russian rubles, reported the Russian Ministry of Finance. As a result, the budget deficit grew from 4.6 trillion Russian rubles (1.9% of GDP) for the first quarter to 5.9 trillion rubles (2.5% of GDP) for the four months of 2026. In 2025, for the same period, the figure was half as much and amounted to 1.4% of GDP.
The main reason for such a financial failure is colossal expenditures on military needs and advance payments for state orders, which increased by more than 40% compared to last year.
The revenue part of the budget for January-April, compared to the same period last year, decreased by 4.5%. Although this lag from last year's figures is narrowing, Kommersant writes. Thus, oil and gas revenues grew by 10.2% year-on-year (after three months it was 7.1%), totaling 9.4 trillion Russian rubles. The main contribution to revenues was traditionally made by VAT (internal and on imports), which is collected at the new rate — plus 20.2% year-on-year (5.3 trillion Russian rubles).

Так устроена Россия, 400 лет так, "лишние" деньги, если появляются, то сразу тратятся на войну и утилизацию собственного населения.
Распухши завоеванными территориями соседних стран и народов, до теперешних размеров, всюду построена неустроенность и запуста.
