On May 26, in Constantinople (Istanbul), at the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of the Orthodox Church, a new bishop of Themis, Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople in Lithuania, Father Panaretos Psaravtis, was elected.
The new Exarch is expected to arrive in Lithuania on June 7, when the Ecumenical (Universal) Patriarch Bartholomew himself will visit the Orthodox Christian community there, reported the Belarusian Orthodox Parish in Vilnius, which belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, on its Telegram channel.
Patriarch Bartholomew will visit Lithuania at the invitation of the Roman Catholic Archbishop Gintaras Grušas and will participate in the Congress of Mercy.
The Divine Liturgy of the Orthodox community with the participation of the Patriarch and the new Exarch will take place on June 7 at 9:00 AM in the Trinapolis Church of the Holy Trinity (Verkių g. 70).
After the service, a meeting with the community will take place.
The newly elected Archimandrite Panaretos Psaravtis, who will serve in Lithuania, is a priest and monk born in Chania, Crete, serving in a Constantinople parish that unites the Slavic and Turkish Christian communities.
He became a monk in 2002 and was ordained a priest in 2003. Father Panaretos began his ministry in the Metropolis of Rethymno and Avlopotamos of the Church of Crete. In 2014, he was invited to serve in Constantinople.
For his diligent service, he received the title of Archimandrite in 2010 and the title of Great Preacher (Megas Ierokyrix) in 2016.
