France national team and London "Arsenal" defender William Saliba played at the World Cup with a serious spinal injury sustained in an English Premier League match, RMC Sport reports.
The 25-year-old central defender had back problems even before arriving at the French national team's location. At the 2026 World Cup, Saliba played while taking painkillers. Due to the injury, he missed some training sessions.
In the World Cup semi-final match against Spain (0:2), the Frenchman was substituted in the 30th minute after being unable to continue playing due to back pain.
According to preliminary information, the defender will require surgery, due to which he will miss four to five months.
