Peskov commented on information about plague in the Irkutsk Region
In fact, the Kremlin neither confirmed nor denied reports of a possible case of plague in the Irkutsk region.

Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on reports of a possible case of plague infection in the Irkutsk region.
"The main department competent in this area is Rospotrebnadzor. And it is on the official statements of Rospotrebnadzor that one should rely, not listening to various rumors, various speculations," Peskov said.
He added that "highly professional specialists work in this field" in the department, and again urged to trust their official reports.
The death of an employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute became the reason for talks about the plague. The woman was hospitalized on September 29 with symptoms of severe pneumonia, and she died on the night of October 1-2.
Media reported a version of infection according to which 28-year-old Darya Shipilova, an employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute, broke a test tube with the causative agent of pneumonic plague. The girl died. There was no official confirmation of this version of the cause of her death.
After Shipilova's death, the Shelekhov hospital, where she was located, was closed for quarantine. 189 people who had contact with the woman were placed under medical observation. The governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, stated that no signs of the disease were found in them.
Rospotrebnadzor reported that conducted studies did not detect microorganisms related to the professional activities of the deceased. Officially, her diagnosis was formulated as "pneumonia of undetermined etiology." According to the department, the sanitary-epidemiological situation in the region remains stable.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan have strengthened precautionary measures. At border crossing points, people, transport, and cargo are being checked, and services responsible for preventing the import of especially dangerous infections have been put on high alert.
The White House is also monitoring the situation. According to an Axios source in the Donald Trump administration, US authorities are aware of reports from Russia, are tracking them, and "evaluating possible options."
Plague is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. The most dangerous pneumonic form can be transmitted from person to person through the respiratory tract. With timely antibiotic treatment, the disease is curable, but without prompt medical attention, it leads to death.
