Israeli citizen caught trying to import large sum of cash into Belarus
An Israeli citizen may face up to five years in prison with confiscation of money after attempting to import into Belarus an amount that was more than three times the established limit. This was reported by the State Customs Committee.
After arriving in Minsk, the man went through customs control and chose the green corridor, which signifies the absence of goods and cash that need to be declared. However, customs officers found cash in various currencies in his luggage, totaling an amount equivalent to 33 thousand dollars.
As noted by the customs committee, this amount exceeded the legally established limit (10 thousand dollars) by more than three times, within which cash can be moved across the customs border without declaration.
A criminal case was initiated against the foreigner under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of Belarus. He faces up to five years in prison with confiscation of the monetary funds.
The State Customs Committee reminded that cash in the amount equivalent to 10 thousand US dollars or more, when crossing the customs border, must be declared in writing. For this, it is necessary to go through the red corridor of the checkpoint.
