A plague outbreak is possible in Russia. Even the White House is monitoring the situation
The reason was the death of a 28-year-old employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute. She broke a test tube with the causative agent of pneumonic plague.

Donald Trump's administration is monitoring the situation surrounding a possible case of pneumonic plague in the Irkutsk region, writes Axios, citing an American official.
“The administration is aware of the situation, is monitoring the outbreak, and is evaluating possible courses of action,” the publication's source said.
According to Russian media, on September 25, 28-year-old Darya Shipilova, an employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute, broke a test tube with the causative agent of pneumonic plague. A few days later, she was hospitalized with severe pneumonia, and in the night of October 2, she died.
After this, quarantine measures were introduced in several medical institutions, and nearly 200 people who might have been in contact with the woman were placed under observation. According to Irkutsk region governor Igor Kobzev, they show no signs of illness, and tests yielded negative results.
Russian health authorities have not confirmed that Shipilova had the plague. Rospotrebnadzor named "pneumonia of unknown etiology" as the cause of her death and stated that tests did not detect microorganisms associated with her work. The agency describes the epidemiological situation in the region as stable.
