Head of German intelligence believes Germany could find itself in direct armed conflict with Russia
Martin Jäger states that Russian special services operate in Europe with high professionalism and ruthlessness, and the danger of new sabotages persists.

According to the assessment of Martin Jäger, President of the Federal Intelligence Service of Germany, the risk of a direct military confrontation with Russia has increased.
At a public hearing before the parliamentary control committee, Jäger stated: "The confrontation we are in with Russia has taken on a new, more dangerous quality: Germany risks finding itself in an armed conflict with Russia. <…> No other country currently poses such a direct, comprehensive, and concrete threat to Germany," Bild writes.
Jäger asserts that Russian special services operate in Europe with high professionalism and ruthlessness, and the danger of new sabotages persists. Ultimately, the Russian leadership wants to "ensure that political decisions against Moscow are not made in Berlin and other European capitals," said the head of German intelligence.
"Germany has become the main obstacle to Russia's hegemonic projection of power in Europe and thus a target for Russian actions. Whoever does not submit becomes an adversary: this is Moscow's view. ... Russia is waging a shadow war against us. This undeclared war does not fit into conventional military or legal categories. We are not in a state of defense, yet we are under attack — that is why it is a shadow conflict," Jäger says.
The intelligence service currently sees no threat of a direct large-scale military attack on NATO.
However, Jäger warns of possible "low-level Russian military activity," especially in the Baltic states.
"We must prepare for intimidation attempts and further interference. Nuclear threats are also likely to recur," said the head of intelligence.
