On October 5, the Czech government decided to expand the possibility for some Belarusian citizens to obtain short-term Czech visas for their close relatives, writes "Radio Svaboda".

The details of the new decision have not yet been published. It is known that it concerns Belarusians who have Czech citizenship or a long-term residence permit in the country. They will be able to invite their direct relatives in the ascending or descending line — parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, and other relatives of this type — to the Czech Republic. No one objected to this proposal at the government meeting.
The possibilities for Belarusian citizens to obtain Czech visas were significantly restricted as part of the measures introduced by the Czech government after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Andrei Kalaur, a representative of the "Belarusian Solidarity" community in Brno, stated that Belarusians in the Czech Republic intend to seek further expansion of the circle of relatives for whom invitations for visas can be issued.
This opportunity arose as a result of negotiations between the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the Belarusian opposition.
"We thank Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, the Czech government, and everyone who contributed to this important matter.
This result is the fruit of the joint work of the democratic forces of Belarus, including human rights defender Ales Bialiatski, the Belarusian diaspora and national minority in the Czech Republic, our Czech friends, and above all, the elected leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya," emphasized Kristina Shiyanok, director of the Office of Democratic Forces of Belarus in the Czech Republic.
