The US has already weakened Iran's military potential; now Washington will ensure a 'D-Day' for the Iranian economy. This was written by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in an article for The Financial Times.

"President Donald Trump and the overwhelming strength of our armed forces have significantly undermined Iran's military potential and weakened its nuclear program. Now we are entering the final stage. At dawn, an economic 'D-Day' begins – the largest financial offensive ever organized against an adversary," wrote the Treasury Secretary.

Bessent noted that Iran's economy has been weakened to its limits, but Tehran still counts on the help of other countries. Iran's "enablers," as the Secretary writes, buy its oil, service financial flows, and turn a blind eye to illegal operations.

"President Trump is doing what his predecessors refused to do," he said. According to Bessent, complete financial isolation of Iran can eliminate the need for military force.

According to Bessent, those who sever ties with Tehran will strengthen their own economies, while those who remain economically tied to Tehran will "share its isolation."

"'To become a haven for terror means to become a global pariah in the eyes of the United States,' Bessent warns."

Historically, "D-Day" refers to the landing of Americans, Britons, and Canadians on June 6, 1944, in Normandy, which ultimately led to the complete liberation of Western Europe from the Nazis. Subsequently, "D-Day" in military terminology refers to the day a major military operation begins.
