"Some reacted with 'hee-hee, ha-ha'". Lukashenka spoke about the unexpected results of sending negligent agricultural workers to the army

Aliaksandr Lukashenka shared unexpected results of sending negligent agricultural workers to the army at a meeting on certain issues of socio-economic development, writes BelTA.

He recalled an earlier thesis: "we must work if we don't want to fight."

"I'll give an example. Some reacted with 'hee-hee, ha-ha' when I said at a selective meeting: negligent, alcoholics and others who don't want to work on the land during harvest – to the 'front'. To the army, to special operations forces, to the border – to Krupko and Parkhomchyk, Khrenin (heads of Gomel and Brest regions respectively and Minister of Defense) – is responsible," he reminded.

Aliaksandr Lukashenka noted that at first he thought there could be thousands of such people, but ultimately, with the help of local authorities, about 500 people were found and conscripted.

He said that he had repeatedly asked Minister of Defense Viktar Khrenin how this new intake of negligent workers was coping with army service. And he asked several times to double-check the information when he was reported that there were no issues with them in the army.

"I didn't believe it. I said: 'Double-check, see for yourself.' A week later, I asked again. He told me: 'Aliaksandr Ryhoravich, allow me to encourage them.' I said: 'Are you crazy? These are drunkards, scoundrels…' Their faces are bright, they work, they do everything an officer tells them. No complaints whatsoever," he said.

"And they say that the army is not a correctional camp, as Valfovich (State Secretary of the Security Council) said. Yes, it is not a camp. But it is a very good school of upbringing," Aliaksandr Lukashenka is convinced. "Normal men. They underwent retraining. I said: 'Give everyone weapons, like military personnel. Re-dress them, shave them, cut their hair. And send them there.' Combat cohesion, everything was done according to the latest standards. Mobile groups, tactical groups. Everything we need to defend the border. We are not fighting in Ukraine, but the border needs to be protected. And 170 people were sent there immediately."

He said that there were no complaints about these people there either:

"They dug dugouts better than apartments were furnished in Minsk. So much for drunkards, scoundrels."

In this regard, Aliaksandr Lukashenka noted, the question arises why they could not be properly organized at their main place of work: "We could not organize them. But in the army, Khrenin and his officers organized their activities and he asks to reward them."

I say: 'Let's start with you rewarding them, I'm not against it.' He will reward certain best people there. This means people can work."

He also emphasized that there are certain methods and levers of influence on those who do not want to properly perform their work duties. People should be treated humanely, but also firmly demanded, he said.

In July, Lukashenka proposed sending negligent officials and agricultural workers to military training camps. After this, the Ministry of Defense sent military commissars to inspect agricultural enterprises during the harvest.

On August 7, during a visit to Vileyka and the district, Lukashenka stated that about 500 negligent officials and specialists had been sent to the army. He proposed involving them in work on neglected agricultural lands in the Minsk region.

"Take these two battalion tactical groups that were created from negligent officials and specialists. Do you understand what I'm talking about? Now there are about 500 of them. I call them - two battalion tactical groups," he said then.
