Canada imposes high tariffs on American goods. This is a response to Trump's similar steps.

Canada has decided to respond to new US trade restrictions by increasing tariffs on a range of goods from America. This was stated by Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne.

New tariffs will range from 15% to 50% and will take effect at midnight on September 8. They will apply, in particular, to American steel and aluminum, dairy products, household appliances, fish and seafood, furniture, clothing, tools, and equipment.

The highest rate — 50% — will apply to steel and aluminum products. Previously, a 25% duty was applied to them. The same rate will affect some other categories of goods, including natural honey, furniture, and clothing.

A 25% duty will be imposed on household appliances, dairy products, including cheese, fish and seafood, as well as some steel and aluminum products.

For certain types of tools and equipment, including air conditioning systems, the rate will be 15%.

At the same time, Canadian authorities announced a support package of 5.4 billion US dollars, or 7.5 billion Canadian dollars. These funds are intended to help businesses and workers affected by the trade conflict.

Canada took such measures after the US announced the introduction of 50 percent tariffs on part of Canadian imports. Negotiations between the two countries on a new trade agreement last week ended without result.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called Washington's decision erroneous and stated that Canada would act symmetrically. According to him, during the negotiations, Ottawa showed 'pragmatism, patience, and persistence'.

Carney also stated that Donald Trump wants to strike a serious blow to major sectors of Canadian industry, including the automotive sector. Trump announced that from January, American duties on Canadian passenger cars and trucks, as well as auto parts, would be doubled — to 50%.

On Tuesday, Trump again criticized Canada, calling it the most 'intransigent' country. He stated that Canadian tariffs on some American agricultural goods reach 400% or more, and accused Canada of taking advantage of the US for decades.

Трамп единственный кому за такой короткий срок удалось испортить отношения со всеми союзниками в силу своей скудности ума и безразмерных амбиций. Тупой еще тупее в чистом виде.
