US President Donald Trump stated that he could organize a meeting with Vladimir Putin even now, but sees no point in it until the parties are ready to conclude a peace agreement. He said this during a conversation with journalists at the White House.
“He [Putin] would do it if I wanted. But I want to hold a meeting when we are ready to conclude a peace agreement,” Trump stated.
He added that he would like to establish good relations with both Russia and Ukraine: “I want us to have good relations with Russia, with Ukraine, with everyone. That would be great for business. Russia has a huge territory and very valuable lands. A lot of good things are happening there. But no, we could hold this meeting — I’m ready to bet, I could do it immediately. I want to hold it when this war is coming to an end. And I think it will.”
Trump also called on the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to stop hostilities.
“Putin and Zelensky should stop this foolish war,” he stated.
According to Trump, personal animosity between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky hinders a peace agreement.
“You know, I stopped eight wars. Eight. Some of them were considered much more difficult to stop than this one, and I succeeded in stopping them. But there is tremendous animosity between the two presidents,” said the head of the White House.
It was previously reported that CIA director John Ratcliffe, during a closed visit to Moscow, proposed holding a trilateral meeting between Trump, Zelensky, and Putin.
