Bookmakers update list of favorites for Nobel Prize in Literature
One month remains until the announcement of the Nobel Prize in Literature laureate. Betting company Ladbrokes has updated its list of probable winners.

Bookmakers consider Chinese writer Can Xue, who creates experimental prose, to be the main favorite. Bets on her victory are accepted with odds of 10/1.
In second place is Japanese writer Haruki Murakami, who has been named among the main contenders for the Nobel Prize for many years. His odds are 14/1.
Bookmakers also highly rate the chances of American Thomas Pynchon — 16/1.
Russian writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya comes with odds of 18/1.
Canadian writer Margaret Atwood, Frenchman Michel Houellebecq, and British-Indian writer Salman Rushdie have odds of 20/1 each.
Other well-known names on the bookmakers' list include Ukrainian writer Andrey Kurkov (33/1), as well as giants like Stephen King (50/1) and Harry Potter author Joanne Rowling (66/1).
The laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature will be announced on October 8. However, betting rankings do not reflect the true list of contenders: information about nominations is kept secret for 50 years.
