Zelenskyy: There will be no winners in the war

In Russia's war against Ukraine, there can no longer be a victory for both sides — only a cessation of hostilities for the sake of preserving human lives. At the same time, some partners mistakenly believe that Putin needs only a part of Ukrainian territory, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an interview with CBC News, RBC-Ukraine writes.

Zelenskyy stated: Putin's opinion will have to be changed.

"He has the largest territory in the world, and he needs some kilometers? That's why it's very strange when some partners say: he only needs this part of Ukraine, these kilometers, and that's all," the president noted.

He added that it's not just about individual kilometers, but about all of Ukraine as part of Russia. The Kremlin's goal is much broader than acquiring a separate piece of land — it's about the complete subjugation of the country.

The President of Ukraine also commented on the idea of a solution beneficial to both Russia and Ukraine simultaneously.

"Between us, there cannot be a win-win in this war. After so many human losses, it stopped being about victory for both sides on the very first day," Zelenskyy stated.

According to him, the only true victory now is simply to stop the war for the sake of human lives, and not to seek a formula equally beneficial to both sides.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine and the US are in constant dialogue and continue negotiations — the American side, according to him, is taking various support measures.

At the same time, regarding sanctions, the president noted: the US should act more strongly and decisively to completely destroy Russia's ability to wage war.

Zelenskyy said that the American side asked not to disclose details of the negotiations to the media while the voiced ideas are being worked out.

Preparations are currently underway for the president's meeting with Donald Trump in New York, scheduled for the end of September.

Earlier, Jared Kushner already named the main obstacle in negotiations — according to him, the US prepared the main part of an agreement to end the war, but Kyiv does not agree to Putin's territorial demands regarding Donbas.

According to David Arakhamia, one of the negotiation team members, Russia may return to the negotiation process as early as early October — after the State Duma elections, which are to take place in September.

Meanwhile, an RBC-Ukraine source reported that the work of Witkoff and Kushner could result in an energy truce between Ukraine and Russia this winter — the American side argues that in previous winters, Russia never achieved its goal.
