"How Am I Without You?" Zmitser Dashkevich Wrote Two Books About His Experiences and Thoughts in Colony. Fundraising Announced for Publication

Zmitser Dashkevich wants to publish two books about his experiences in the colony. He, along with his wife Nasta, announced a fundraiser on the BySol foundation website. They need to collect 10,000 euros.

"Many former political prisoners write books after their release from prison, analyzing their experience, evaluating it when they are already free. Zmitser rather described his emotions, feelings, experiences, and reflections that he had at that moment, while in prison. Isolation cells, provocations, new criminal cases, worrying about loved ones, feelings of guilt, and hope for the best. Everything he shared in letters with his wife is laid out in this book. Prison without embellishment. Despair turning into hope," BySol reports.

Zmitser's books are an appeal to those who are going through difficult experiences and living in harsh circumstances, to show that there is always hope. To show Belarusians the strength of the human spirit. How terrible prison can be, how helpless a person can be, and how much depends on what is inside them.

The first book, "How Am I Without You? Letters to My Wife," is a testament to pain and joy, despair and hope, everything that Zmitser and Nasta went through during three "terms" from March 2023 to September 2025. More than 500 letters to Nasta were scanned and typed, which amounts to about 1500 scans.

During the work on these texts, the editor formed another book: "Psalms and Sermons." These are excerpts from letters on biblical themes and poems that are essentially a lyrical reflection on the Word of God, family, and the sufferings of Nasta and Zmitser.

The fundraising goal is 10,000 euros for two books with a print run of one thousand copies.
