"Alternative for Germany" in the newly elected Landtag of Saxony-Anhalt immediately demanded an end to support for Ukraine and the cancellation of sanctions against Russia
In the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, the parties "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) and "Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance" (BSW) proposed to stop military and financial aid to Ukraine, as well as to cancel sanctions against Russia, writes Deutsche Welle.

Immediately after the inaugural meeting of the new Landtag in Magdeburg, the two parties submitted a joint proposal.
They call on the parliament to declare that the sanctions policy against Russia, arms supplies, and financial support for Ukraine have allegedly yielded no results. Instead, it is proposed to move to peace negotiations. The document also contains a demand to immediately lift economic sanctions against Russia.
However, Germany's state authorities do not have the power to independently determine the country's foreign or energy policy. Nevertheless, AfD and BSW hope to use their majority in the Saxony-Anhalt Landtag to exert political pressure on the federal government in Berlin.
Sahra Wagenknecht stated that this is, in her words, the first time a German parliament has clearly opposed the federal government's policy towards Ukraine and advocated for peace negotiations. She called for dialogue with Moscow instead of escalation.
Wagenknecht and AfD co-chair Alice Weidel also criticized Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz for his recent visit to Kyiv and new financial promises to Ukraine. They believe that this money would be better spent in Germany itself.
A special session of the Saxony-Anhalt Landtag to discuss this proposal is scheduled for October 14.
