A Belarusian who became a Russian mercenary returned to Slutsk — unnoticed by law enforcement. He calls on others not to die for Russia

A man who signed a contract with the Russian army and spent seven months on the front line in Ukraine spoke about the enormous losses among assault troops and recruitment deception. At the same time, he plans to return to the Russian army to serve out the remaining two months.

The man himself contacted the creator of the YouTube channel Slutsk Gorod and offered to record an interview "to tell people the truth." The fighter wished to remain anonymous.

Having been wounded after seven months on the front line, he temporarily returned to Belarus for treatment and rehabilitation. According to him, he had dreamed of being a soldier since childhood, but failed the medical commission at home due to health issues. After the start of the full-scale war, he went to Russia and only on the third attempt was able to finalize a contract.

The man claims he went to fight "for an idea." After two weeks of training in a training center, he was assigned to a reconnaissance unit.

When asked what he would say to those who are currently considering participating in the war or seeing advertisements offering to sign a contract, the fighter responded very emphatically:

"I wouldn't encourage it. There are specially trained people who do this. But when a civilian comes in who doesn't know what military affairs are... Training camp is not like a regular army. There's very fast training, you have to grasp everything on the fly. An ordinary person who understands nothing literally might just not survive. Going there because of some problems at home or because you just wanted to show off somehow... — it's not worth going there at all. Because it's war," he stressed.

The fighter also warned about deception in advertisements that promise service in safe rear areas. According to him, almost 90% of recruits, regardless of promises, are sent to assault units, where there is a colossal shortage of personnel.

According to the mercenary, assault troops die very quickly, and almost no one from those he started serving with is left alive:

"In our training camp, there were 96 people, most of whom went into assault units. From my platoon, two were taken into reconnaissance and one into electronic warfare. All the other 18 people went into assault. They were gone after two weeks."

Answering the question if he knows anyone from his training camp who survived these 7-8 months in assaults, he briefly replied: "No."

The fighter described the modern front as an area of total drone control, where artillery and snipers have taken a back seat, and 95% of injuries are shrapnel wounds.

Despite his own warnings and understanding of the scale of losses, the interviewee himself plans to return to the front to serve out the remaining two months of his active contract. According to him, he currently faces no claims from Belarusian law enforcement agencies.

The Criminal Code of Belarus provides for 3 to 7 years for mercenarism — participation in military actions on the territory of a foreign country.
