The coach of Grodno "Neman" almost burned alive in his expensive car
On October 10, "Neman" defeated "Baranovichi" 3:0. Thanks to the continuation of their successful streak, the Grodno team rose to fifth place in the Belarusian championship table. This match was a юбилей for Ihar Kavalevich, who now has 600 matches at the highest level as head coach. He was reminded of the round number at a press conference. To which he unexpectedly stated that he might not have lived to see the anniversary, writes "Tribuna".

"Well, I'm pleased that I've played 600 matches in a good city that I love very much. That's how it happened, that's how fate decreed. Life, you know, is such a strange thing, the 600th match might not have happened. My homeland loves me very much, so I probably should have burned in the city of Ivanava. I was born there and, fortunately, survived. There could have been 599 matches, but now there are 600. We will move forward as long as we have the strength."
One might have thought it was a joke or a metaphor, but behind Kavalevich's words lies a real incident that could have ended in tragedy.
On October 8, a news story about a car that caught fire on one of Belarus's roads appeared on the website of "Onliner" publication. An eyewitness sent a video of the incident to the editorial office. The material mentioned that the car belonged to a well-known Belarusian football coach, but his name was not disclosed.
Sources of "Tribuna" claim that it was precisely the head coach of "Neman" who was behind the wheel of that crossover.
Ihar Kavalevich's Volvo XC90 started smoking and stopped on the roadside. After stopping, the smoke from under the hood became even stronger, but for some unknown reason, the driver remained in the cabin. Only 18 seconds after the car stopped, the driver's door was opened by a man who ran up from another car. Kavalevich got out, and almost immediately, flames burst from under the hood. The coach returned for a few seconds and grabbed something from the cabin. Approximately a minute later, when the car was burning even more fiercely, Kavalevich opened the trunk and threw some items out. The coach took a fire extinguisher from another car but could not stop the fire.
According to Kavalevich, he "should have burned" in his hometown, Ivanava. It is known that the "Neman" coach was born in this district center, but he started playing football in the urban settlement of Antopal in the neighboring Drahichyn district. Between Ivanava and Antopal, there are approximately 60 kilometers.
In Antopal, Kavalevich was raised by his grandparents. In one of his interviews, the coach said that due to his family's moves (his father was a military man), he changed five schools. Later, the coach's parents lived in Antopal, and a children's football tournament for Kavalevich's prizes is still held there.
The incident with the car saddened Kavalevich. A used Volvo XC90, depending on the year of manufacture and configuration, can cost from 20 to 40 thousand dollars (prices for new models start from 85 thousand). But the main thing is that in this story, everything ended without tragic consequences.
