Army adopted the Belarusian-developed 'Shafran' laser for destroying drones
According to the State Military-Industrial Committee, the complex detects drones at a distance of up to 4.5 kilometers and strikes them with a laser beam at a range of up to 1.5 kilometers. Authorities call it a domestic development, but Ukrainian analysts noted similarities with a Chinese system.

The adoption of 'Shafran' into service was announced by Dmitry Pantus, Chairman of the State Military-Industrial Committee, on the 'Belarus 1' broadcast.
"The 'Shafran' laser complex of domestic production has been successfully adopted into service," he stated.
According to Pantus, the complex is currently being modernized to increase its power, range, and improve other characteristics.
"Shafran" is equipped with radar and optoelectronic means for drone detection. Instead of a missile or projectile, it uses a laser beam.

The State Military-Industrial Committee reported on the complex's tests in November 2025. According to the department, its effectiveness was demonstrated during the 'West-2025' exercises. The development was carried out by the Scientific and Technical Center 'LEMT' of BelOMA commissioned by the State Military-Industrial Committee.
However, the Ukrainian publication Defense Express already in September 2025 expressed the opinion that 'Shafran' might be based on Chinese technologies, specifically the Silent Hunter system.
Analysts compared the published images of control interfaces and noted their similarity, as well as an identical specific camera angle. Another argument they cited was the short development period: at the time of the demonstration, 'LEMT' had officially worked on the complex for less than a year.
