Belarusian poet Gennady Pashkov, the long-time director of the Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia publishing house, has died. He was 77 years old.

Gennady Pashkov was born on March 23, 1948 in the village of Malye Lipovichi, Chashniki district. He studied at the Faculty of Journalism of the Belarusian State University.
He worked at Belarusian Radio, in the magazine "Polymya" (since 1972: head of the editorial office, executive secretary, deputy editor-in-chief), in the apparatus of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, edited the magazines "Teatralnaya Belarus" and "Centralnaya Gazeta".
From February 1996 to 2008, he was the director of the publishing house "Belarusian Encyclopedia" named after Petrus Brovka, and in 2008-2016 he was the first secretary of the Union of Writers of Belarus.
Gennady Pashkov's creative work began in 1967. He published collections of poetry for adults "Klyanovik", "Distance of Danger", "I Listen to the Earth"; "Cranberry Island" and others, as well as for children: "Girl with a Blue Ball", "Ptich", "Star Field" and others. He is also the author of books of essays "Weekday as a Holiday" and "Polesie Wanderers".
In addition, Pashkov is the author of the documentary film "I love the earth so...".
For the lyrical and documentary story "Polesie Wanderers", Gennady Pashkov received the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in the field of literature, art and architecture in 1998. In 2013, he was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Belarus.
