A Belarusian official spoke Belarusian, much to the surprise and delight of the people.
A Minsk District Executive Committee official appeared in a report on state television and unexpectedly began speaking in Belarusian. Moreover, the conversation was not about history or culture, but about a routine economic problem — the asphalting of roads in a suburban village. We found out who this person is, who is being suggested online to be included in the Red Book and bombarded with letters of gratitude.

A video with an excerpt of the story appeared on the Threads social network. User sutonnie published a fragment with the caption: "An official answers in Belarusian. Who is this, from where, what's what - don't ask, I don't know. A friend sent it. I just liked it."
What is the story about?
The fragment is taken from the broadcast of the program "Belarusian Time. Communal Thursday", which aired on December 4, 2025, on the Belarus 1 TV channel. The report examined a complaint from residents of Svetlaya Street in the village of Shchitomirichi, Senitsky Village Council, located south of Minsk. People were outraged that new asphalt was laid on the neighboring Privetlivaya Street, while their road was left gravel, which turns it into a swamp during the off-season.
Sergei Oleichik, Deputy Head of the Architecture and Construction Department of the Minsk District Executive Committee, had to respond to the residents' claims.
To the surprise of the audience, the official commented on the situation in good Belarusian:
"The length of all roads is 3242 kilometers... Therefore, many factors are taken into account. First of all, these are central estates... Then other settlements, where the intensity of road traffic is taken into account... I think, for 2026-27, in the near future, the installation of asphalt concrete layers will be considered on the neighboring street as well."
Who is Sergei Oleichik?
Sergei Vasilyevich Oleichik was born on February 10, 1973, in the village of Urved, Kletsk district, Minsk region. He is married and has three children.
According to Belpol, his career began in his small homeland. From 2003 to 2009, he worked in Kletsk: first in a local orphanage, and then in the department of physical culture, sports and tourism of the Kletsk District Executive Committee.
In 2009-2011, Oleichik worked at the Istoki Children's Village, a well-known center for orphans built on a family-type basis in the Opytny settlement of the Borovlyansky Village Council.
In 2011, Sergei Oleichik moved to work in the department of education, sports and tourism of the Minsk District Executive Committee, and held the position of Deputy Head of the department. In 2019, he became Deputy Head of the Administrative Department, and now oversees architecture and construction issues in the capital region.
The modest biographical information about the official, however, does not reveal the main thing - who and when instilled in him such an adherence to the Belarusian language.
In the comments under the video, one of the users noted that he knows Sergei Oleichik personally:
"He didn't squeeze it out of himself. He always speaks in Belarusian for as long as I've known him. And I've known him for about 15 years."
Reaction in social networks
Commentators on Threads greeted the Belarusian-speaking official with delight and a share of sadness that this has become a rarity.
"We need to find out his name and bombard him with letters of thanks," the author of the post suggests.
"Put him in the Red Book! It's good that at least someone speaks in his native Belarusian from the officials."
"Mother of God! Where does this miracle live? A strange miracle."
"And how soft is his "сь" - honey for the ears."
People note that the very fact of using the Belarusian language by a civil servant in an economic issue inspires respect and hope: "More and more people are switching to the language, not everything is lost."
