To know how to properly layer "shuba" (fur coat salad), you need to decide on the list of ingredients. Some housewives can't decide each time whether to add eggs to herring under a fur coat, or if the classic recipe does not include this product, writes UNIAN.

Despite the fact that "Shuba" exists in various variations (even with mushrooms, apples, and cheese), the original recipe is very simple. The basic cooking technology includes the use of herring, potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, eggs, and mayonnaise. The "Shuba" salad of the USSR era did not have other ingredients.

Remember how to prepare the most delicious herring under a fur coat — the layers with egg should be arranged in this exact order:

  • herring;
  • potatoes;
  • mayonnaise;
  • onions;
  • carrots;
  • mayonnaise;
  • eggs;
  • beets;
  • mayonnaise.

Useful life hack: if you know that the herring is too salty, you can soak it in tea or milk a few hours before cooking. These two liquids will help remove excess salt.

Regardless of which layers are in "Shuba", herring is always placed at the bottom. If there are several such "herring" layers, then this salad is called differently — "Herring under a Boyar's Fur Coat". Before serving, it is advisable to decorate the dish with grated egg, finely chopped green onions, or dill.

Herring under a fur coat — classic recipe

Ingredients:

  • half a kilogram of lightly salted herring;
  • half a kilogram of carrots;
  • half a kilogram of beets;
  • half a kilogram of potatoes;
  • 200 g onions;
  • 200 g mayonnaise;
  • 2 eggs;
  • salt, pepper, green onions or dill.

Garnish with grated egg and finely chopped green onions.
