CIA confirmed that Ukraine did not target Putin or his residence during its drone strike
The United States has concluded that Ukraine did not plan to attack Russian President Vladimir Putin or one of his residences during a recent drone strike. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing American national security officials. These conclusions contradict Moscow's claims that Kyiv allegedly tried to kill the Russian leader.

This information emerged amidst US President Donald Trump publicly questioning the Russian version of events.
According to an American official, the Central Intelligence Agency also found no evidence of an attempt to attack Putin. The CIA declined to comment officially.
It is noted that the target of the Ukrainian strike was a military facility that had previously been attacked by Kyiv. It is located in the same region as Putin's country residence in Valdai, but not in its immediate vicinity.
On December 31, Trump shared a link to a New York Post editorial that claimed Russia's statements about an alleged attack on Putin indicate that Moscow is precisely what is preventing peace.
Earlier, during a phone conversation with Trump, Putin stated that Ukrainian drones were allegedly aimed at his residence near Lake Valdai in the Novgorod region. Trump admitted that he was very irritated by these accusations. When asked whether the US had evidence of such an attack, he suggested that it might not have happened, although Putin claimed otherwise.
Ukraine categorically rejected all accusations, emphasizing that Putin is trying to find a pretext for deteriorating relations between Washington and Kyiv, as well as for weakening Ukraine's positions in peace negotiations that the US is conducting to end the war.
