On Christmas, Alexander Lukashenka spoke from the pulpit in a church in the village of Akolitsa, Minsk district. First, the politician admitted that so much snow had fallen in Belarus thanks to him.
"Well, we wanted it so much, and I, too, asked the Lord for frost and snow. Listen, that's what happened. Even with a reserve. So I'm glad we finally have a snowy winter. Of course, not the winter of our childhood – we weren't visible because of the drifts (snowdrifts), especially in the village. But nevertheless, a real winter. May your life be real too," Lukashenka said.
He brought the Minsk Icon of the Mother of God as a gift to the church. And immediately found a practical use for it. Lukashenka believes that this icon will help find the right path in a confused world.
"Many, many times I have drawn your attention to the fact that the world today is very complex. Confused to impossibility. Perhaps our main sanctuary will help us find some right path in this dark, confused, incomprehensible world. That's the first thing," Lukashenka said.
He also sees another function in the icon - it should identify potential enemies.
"Arch-important! So, God grant that this icon, this main sanctuary of ours, helps you here and all of us to see... Well, we have no enemies, let's assume. But, God forbid, we must see some of our potential adversaries. And our icon, perhaps, will help us in this," Lukashenka believes.
In his opinion, last year was a white streak in Belarus. But if anything happens suddenly, the icon will help in grief and sorrow.
"Life is life. As we say, life is a striped vest. Both white and dark stripes. So, there are not always white stripes. Who would say, the Lord has spared us, and we live in a peaceful country. And this, based on last year, I would say, is a white streak. Today we have everything for people to live, feed themselves and their children. On only one condition - if they work. Without work, there will be nothing. Therefore, this icon grants us peace and consolation. It teaches," Lukashenka noted.
Lukashenka also expressed hope that the icon would educate young people, who are already different, and heal children.
"We will only be glad. This is important for us. We have enough people who need help. May a person, by touching this icon, slowly, gradually, but be healed," Lukashenka noted.
But overall, he urged Belarusians to help themselves.
