Hungary wants Ukraine to immediately resume oil supplies via the "Druzhba" pipeline, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Monday ahead of a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, writes the BBC.
Until that happens, Budapest will block the adoption of the EU's 20th sanctions package against Russia and decisions important for Kyiv, he promised.
The operation of part of "Druzhba" was suspended on January 27. Kyiv explained this by damage to the pipeline by Russian military personnel, but Budapest believes that Ukraine deliberately suspended oil supplies via "Druzhba" for political reasons. The oil product crisis will be painfully perceived in Hungary, where parliamentary elections are due on April 12, Budapest believes.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also promised yesterday to block the adoption of the 20th package of anti-war sanctions against Russia.
The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, acknowledged on Monday that EU countries will not be able to agree on a new sanctions package on February 23, which Europe had hoped to adopt ahead of the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
