Grodno Zoo Shows What Spoon They Use to Feed the Spectacled Caiman VIDEO
The Grodno Zoo published a video showing how they feed the spectacled caiman named Veniamin. Meat — beef or chicken — is served to him with a special 'spoon'.

It's more like a long wooden stick than a spoon. This way, employees can safely feed the predator without risking it reaching their hand.
The caiman is fed 3-5 times a week — it all depends on his appetite and mood. In one feeding, he eats about 400 grams of meat. The zoo notes that feeding Veniamin with such a 'spoon' is most convenient for both him and the staff.
Although the caiman is called "crocodilian," it is not entirely a crocodile, even though it resembles one. It is also called the spectacled caiman due to the bony ridge between its eyes, which resembles the bridge of the nose of soldiers in helmets or eyeglasses.
This is a medium-sized reptile (adults usually grow up to 1.5–2.5 meters) with very strong "armor" made of bony plates. Such "armor" makes caiman skin less valuable for industry than true crocodile skin, which has helped the species survive as they were not eagerly hunted.

Caimans live in Central and South America. They are very undemanding and can live in rivers, swamps, or even brackish water. Young caimans eat insects and mollusks. Adults transition to fish, birds, and small mammals. And when drought comes, they can simply bury themselves in mud and wait for the rains.
Moreover, spectacled caimans are among the most adaptable reptiles. In some regions (for example, Florida), they are considered an invasive species because they reproduce quickly and displace local animals.
