Formula 1 cancels races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia due to situation in the Middle East
The Formula 1 automotive championship announced the cancellation of two races that were supposed to take place in April in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on April 12 and 19 respectively, writes BBC.
Formula 1 stated that both Grand Prix were canceled due to the "ongoing situation in the Middle East."
The championship notes that it is exploring various options for organizing competitions in other locations, but does not intend to hold alternative races.
— FIA always puts the safety and well-being of our staff and members of the entire community first. Our carefully considered decision is precisely linked to this firm conviction, — said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, head of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
Due to the cancellation of races in the Middle East, the Formula 1 championship will have a five-week break: between the Japanese Grand Prix, which will take place on March 27-29, and the races in Miami, scheduled for May 1-3.
