They were finally sentenced just a month ago.
Viera Kananenka
52-year-old Viera and 57-year-old Siarhei were detained at the end of 2024 during another raid against those suspected of solidarity with political prisoners. In a propaganda film, Siarhei was called a courier for Bysol (the organization itself denied his involvement).
Both pleaded not guilty and received three years in a penal colony and huge fines.
They were finally sentenced only in February 2026. It turns out they spent several weeks in penal colonies before their release.
Viera Kananenka is a Minsk resident. In 2008, she graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Arts as a theater director.
She then worked in theaters and film studios. She was a ballet master in some performances, an assistant director in cinema. From 2010 to 2018, she had the status of an individual entrepreneur, with the field of activity designated as "provision of other services to consumers".
