Israeli military announced that the commander of the voluntary paramilitary formation "Basij" was killed as a result of a "targeted strike in Tehran."
"Yesterday (Monday), the Israeli Air Force, acting on intelligence from the IDF, carried out a strike and eliminated Gholamreza Soleimani, who had commanded the Basij unit for the past six years," the Israeli military stated.
The Basij militia is a voluntary paramilitary organization close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It is the Basij that Iranian authorities often use to suppress protests in the country.
