In the USA, court halted construction of new ballroom in the White House initiated by Trump
The decision to suspend construction was issued by Federal Judge Richard Leon following a lawsuit by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This organization believes that the US President exceeded his authority when he ordered the demolition of part of the building without Congress's permission.

The judge emphasized that the president is not the owner of the White House, but only temporarily manages it in the interest of future generations. Therefore, significant changes, such as the demolition of part of the building and new construction, must be agreed upon with Congress. According to his assessment, there is a high probability that the plaintiffs will win the case.
As a result, the court ordered the suspension of construction work until the merits of the case are heard. The decision will take effect in 14 days, during which time the presidential administration may appeal it.
Trump himself has already stated that he disagrees with this decision and intends to fight it in court.
This is a large-scale project: a grand ballroom is planned to be built on the site of the partially demolished East Wing of the White House (which has existed since the early 20th century). Initially, it was designed for approximately 500 people, but later the project was significantly expanded — to about 1350 guests.
The construction cost is estimated at approximately 400 million dollars. According to statements from the White House, the ballroom itself will be financed by private donors, but a military complex is also planned to be built beneath it, which will be paid for from the state budget.
The judge also noted that it is not too late to obtain official congressional approval. It is Congress, according to law, that controls state property and expenditures, so the final decision on such projects must be made with its participation.
