The tragic accident occurred on Tuesday, April 14, on Autobahn A4 in the municipality of Herleshausen, between the Herleshausen and Wommen interchanges, at approximately 4:15 PM.
A traffic jam had formed on this section of the highway due to another accident that occurred earlier.
For some reason, the 39-year-old Belarusian driving the truck did not notice the traffic jam in time and at high speed crashed into the rear of another heavy goods vehicle's semi-trailer.
Due to the force of the impact, the passenger — also a Belarusian and also 39 years old — was thrown from the cabin and died on the spot. The driver himself was injured and taken to the nearest hospital.
As a result of the collision, material damage amounting to approximately 100,000 euros was caused.
During the rescue and recovery operations, the main carriageway of Autobahn A4 was completely closed, but traffic was redirected via the Burgberg parking area.
