As part of her visit to Ukraine, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, together with the Belarusian delegation, visited the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The guests at the station were met by the Director General of ChNPP, Serhii Tarakanov. He guided the delegation through the territory and spoke extensively: about the station and, most importantly, about the people — those who worked there in 1986, who dedicated years to the facility's safety, and who continue to work at ChNPP even during the war.
In his words, Chernobyl sounded like a space of shared memory for Belarusians and Ukrainians and a place of human endurance. Especially now, when the war has once again made the topic of nuclear safety an everyday concern.
After the excursion, an unexpectedly cozy part of the visit awaited the guests — a buffet. On white tablecloths were small appetizers, bruschetta with lard, pickled onions, and mustard seeds. Pieces of black bread with toasted bacon and cucumbers. Tartlets with cream and herbs, pastries with whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries, two-layer chocolate-vanilla desserts in clear glasses.
The small «Kyiv cutlets» particularly attracted attention — on wooden sticks, like popsicles. With a crispy breading and young baked potatoes next to them.
Everyone separately noted the syrniki (cottage cheese pancakes). Small, delicate, with a light crust and a soft curd center, sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with berries.
There was also simple lard — on black bread.
