Jewelry by a Belarusian designer featured at an exhibition of contemporary jewelry art in Milan
Darya Lutskievich, creator of the Label D brand, is the only Belarusian whose works made it to the prestigious international exhibition. She works with Belarusian bog oak, which is several thousand years old. Such material is extracted from the Dnieper River.
The artist shared photos from the event on Threads: "This is me in Milan at the opening of the contemporary jewelry art exhibition, the only one from Belarus. Come on, tell me you're proud of me, Belarusians?!"
Prior to this, Darya's works were exhibited in Madrid at the tenth anniversary exhibition of contemporary art.
Darya founded the Label D brand in 2012. In one interview, the designer explained that she accidentally changed her field of activity globally. By education, she is a teacher of English and Italian.
Darya's father is an engineer, but all his life he made things from wood in his free time. When the girl was studying in her first year at the Linguistic University, he bought himself a lathe.
Darya immediately asked him to make her a bracelet, then a few more, she painted them, sold them... But she saw that her father wasn't interested in making jewelry, so she started learning herself—so as not to waste his time.
Initially, cherry and linden wood were used—in short, whatever was at hand. Darya got acquainted with bog oak later. And she literally immediately fell in love with this material—the black color seemed very stylish. The oldest bog oak that came into the designer's hands was 5,000 years old. And it was extracted from the bottom of the Dnieper.
