The Sortavala City Court of the Republic of Karelia (Russia) decided to forcibly deport Belarusian citizen Uladzimir Yurchuk. However, he will be sent to Belarus, not to Finland or Norway, as he strongly wished.
As follows from the case materials, in August 2024, Yurchuk found someone's Russian passport. He kept the document for himself, and a month later decided to burn his Belarusian passport. After that, he bought a train ticket with the foreign passport and arrived in the city of Sortavala (Karelia), intending to travel further to Finland, and then to Norway.
However, the Belarusian was detained already in Sortavala. The court determined that from the moment of destroying his passport, he had no legal grounds to be in Russia.
Yurchuk was fined approximately $20 and ordered to be deported to Belarus. Since the man had neither documents nor money, he was sent to a deportation center for three months.
