The Iranian Lesson. DPRK Introduced Automatic Nuclear Strike in Case of Kim Jong Un's Assassination
North Korea has amended its Constitution, obliging its military to immediately launch a retaliatory nuclear strike if the country's supreme leader is assassinated or rendered unable to perform his duties as a result of an attack, writes The Telegraph.
The impetus for such measures was a recent operation by the US and Israel, during which Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei and his close associates were killed. This elimination greatly frightened Kim Jong Un, writes the publication.
Pyongyang saw the "incredible effectiveness" of high-precision strikes and decided to create a mechanism for guaranteed retaliation, even if centralized command is destroyed.
According to the new revision of Article 3 of the nuclear policy law, if the command system is threatened, a nuclear strike must be launched "automatically and immediately".
The DPRK considers the United States as the primary target for a retaliatory strike.
Simultaneously with nuclear threats, Pyongyang is strengthening its conventional weaponry. Kim Jong Un personally inspected the production of new 155mm self-propelled howitzers with a firing range of over 60 km. This artillery is to be deployed along the border as early as this year.
Seoul (which is only 56 km from the border) and key industrial centers of South Korea will be within the strike zone.
Pyongyang has officially removed mentions of peaceful reunification of the Koreas from its Constitution and now openly calls Seoul its main enemy.
