Former Ukraine national football team player Roman Maksymiuk killed at the front

The former footballer went missing in early 2025. It has now been confirmed that he was killed.

Former Ukraine national football team player Roman Maksymiuk was killed at the front. This was reported on Friday, October 16, by the athlete's wife Vera Maksymiuk on social media, writes korrespondent.net.

Maksymiuk voluntarily joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in autumn 2022. The ex-footballer defended Ukraine as part of the 25th Sicheslav Airborne Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.

Maksymiuk last made contact on January 30, 2025. He warned his wife that he was in position in the Pokrovsk direction. After that, contact with him was lost.

"I ask you to remember my Roma. He wasn't just missing. He was a husband, a father, a son, a friend. A man who was loved and awaited," says Vera Maksymiuk's message.

From 1998 to 2002, he played five matches for the Ukrainian national team. In 2000, he became the champion of Ukraine and winner of the national Cup with Kyiv's "Dynamo".

Most of his club career, Maksymiuk played for "Volyn" and "Dnipro", having played over 100 matches for each of these clubs. He also represented "Prykarpattia", Chernivtsi "Kryshtal", and "Chornomorets". He ended his football career in 2011.
