Turkey sends its fighter jets to the Baltic countries

Turkish planes are to be responsible for the alliance's security on its eastern flank.

The Turkish Air Force will strengthen NATO air policing in the Baltic states starting in August. Ankara is sending five F-16 fighter jets, as well as 76 servicemen, to Estonia, BILD writes.

The aircraft must be on round-the-clock combat readiness until November.

The reason for this measure is the alliance's concerns for security on its eastern flank. Turkish aircraft must react to airspace violations and unknown aerial objects over Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
