Famous Belarusian Cyclist Started Working as a Taxi Driver

«I was offered to coach the national team,» says Yauhen Hutarovich, noting that he enjoys working as a taxi driver. «I absolutely don't complain, I really like this profession.»

Yauhen Hutarovich, winner of a stage of the «Vuelta a España» in 2010, participant in the «Tour de France» and «Giro d'Italia», and four-time national champion, shared how he works as a taxi driver, writes kp.by.

«I was offered to coach the national team. Natallia Valeryeuna Tsylinskaya (multiple world champion, today head of the Belarusian Cycling Federation. — NN) really wanted to take me. But I have three children, and we get older every day, so I need to provide for my family. As a result, I chose a taxi,» he said in an interview with sport5.by.

However, he first started driving in his free time even when he was working as a coach. Now, it turns out, Yauhen works on a business tariff.

«I drive comfortably in my own car. I absolutely don't complain, I really like this profession.»

Hutarovich also spoke about typical passengers.

«Here, the car is usually ordered by more or less wealthy people. To date, I have completed about five thousand orders. And you can count on your fingers the people who were, let's say, not entirely comfortable passengers. Everyone is absolutely adequate. Both our Belarusians, and Russians, and many Turks, and Chinese — absolutely wonderful people.

As it turned out, I give rides to many acquaintances, and also meet a lot of interesting people with whom it's pleasant to chat. As a rule, these are business owners, executives, meaning people who have already achieved success in their fields,» the athlete said.

The driver with athletic achievements also answered the question of whether his passengers like to talk. Much depends on the service policy here.

«A driver on a business tariff does not start a conversation first. People are absolutely different. There are those who just need to get to their destination, and that's it. Very often people resolve some of their business issues on the phone. Of course, at that moment you don't talk to them. And a third of the passengers I drive are very communicative and interesting people,» says Yauhen Hutarovich.

He adds that sometimes clients even ask if they can take another round in his company.
