Flávio Bolsonaro's Party Officially Recognized His Defeat in the Brazilian Presidential Elections
The Liberal Party of Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro officially recognized the results of the second round of elections, in which the incumbent 81-year-old president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won.

According to the Superior Electoral Court, Lula received 51.8 percent of the votes, securing his fourth presidential term, while Bolsonaro received 48.2 percent. The total margin was almost 4.4 million votes.
Bolsonaro's party believes that this outcome was influenced by the government's program to expand social benefits for low-income families during the election campaign, which, in their opinion, violated the fairness of the electoral process.
Flávio Bolsonaro himself refused to concede defeat. He quite unexpectedly won in the first round and was leading in polls before the second round. Bolsonaro announced on his Instagram his intention to appeal to the court to annul the election results and declare Lula's candidacy invalid due to abuse of economic and political power. At the same time, the politician emphasized that he intends to lead the opposition to the new government.
Concurrently with the electoral disputes, Brazilian police are investigating Bolsonaro on suspicion of corruption and money laundering related to the financing of a film about his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro. The requirement to surrender his passport and a ban on leaving the country were initiated by the Supreme Court following a statement by his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro, who lives in the US and publicly advised Flávio to leave Brazil in case of defeat. The politician himself called this case a farce but assured that he would surrender his passport and had no intention of fleeing the country.
US President Donald Trump also supported doubts about the integrity of the elections, calling the electoral process in Brazil extremely corrupt and rigged. Trump had previously hosted Flávio Bolsonaro at the White House and also supported his father Jair Bolsonaro, who governed Brazil until early 2023 and was later sentenced to a long prison term for an attempted coup.
