The Latvian government plans to extend for another year the ban on irregular international passenger bus transport through border crossing points with Belarus and Russia.

It is expected that the restrictions will be in effect from November 1, 2026, to October 31, 2027. They apply to all carriers regardless of the country of registration of the company or vehicle. Currently, the ban is in effect until October 31, 2026.
On the Belarusian-Latvian border, the restrictions apply to the Paternieki border crossing point, which corresponds to the Grigoryevshchina point on the Belarusian side.
For now, the ban does not extend to regular passenger transport. However, Latvia has prepared amendments to the law on road transport, which provide for a ban from January 10, 2027, on regular and irregular international bus passenger transport to Belarus and Russia. It is also planned to prohibit international transit transport through the territory of Latvia to these countries.
