All-Russian Drone Operator Meet-up Canceled Due to Drone Attack Threat
Organizers of the All-Russian Drone Operator Meet-up "Dronnitsa", which has been held in the Novgorod region since 2022, announced the cancellation of the next event due to the threat of a possible attack from Ukraine, writes The Moscow Times.
The meet-up of combat UAV operators, specialists from related fields, and volunteers was supposed to take place on August 29-30 in Veliky Novgorod. However, according to the organizers, they received information about Ukraine allegedly preparing a "combined operation" involving, among other things, ballistic missiles and drones. Therefore, after meetings with the regional leadership and representatives of special services, a decision was made to postpone the event.
The organizers explained that holding the meet-up could create additional risks for the Novgorod and neighboring regions. In the event of an attack, as stated in the announcement, strikes might not be directly aimed at the participants of the meet-up, but at facilities that could become targets due to its staging. Furthermore, protecting the event would require diverting air defense forces and law enforcement officers from other areas.
The organizers announced that they would later reveal new dates for the meet-up and organize re-registration for participants.
"Dronnitsa" is positioned by its organizers as a platform for popularizing the military use of drones and creating a professional community of UAV operators, instructors, as well as specialists in electronic reconnaissance and electronic warfare.
At the annual gatherings, discussions are held on the use of drones at the front, the accumulation of combat experience, the creation of specialized drone and anti-drone units, the mass application of UAVs, and the development of military drone technologies.
Based on "Dronnitsa" in Veliky Novgorod, the scientific and production center "Ushkuynik" was also established, which is engaged in testing, refining, and certifying drone technologies. There, the FPV drone on optical fiber, "Knyaz Vandal Novgorodsky" (Prince Vandal of Novgorod), is being developed and tested.
