71-year-old Sergey Vlasenko, a member of the Russian opposition association "Congress of People's Deputies", was found dead in an apartment in the Mokotów district of Warsaw, reports RMF24.
According to Piotr Antoni Skiba, a representative of the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office, there are currently no signs that other people may have been involved in the man's death. An inspection is being carried out at the scene, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday. In addition, toxicology tests are planned.
In the 1980s, Sergey Vlasenko was a deputy in local authorities in the Far East, later living in Anapa, Krasnodar Krai. After the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, he moved to Poland. He initially stayed there on a tourist visa, and later received political asylum.
The "Congress of People's Deputies" unites former Russian deputies and positions itself as an opposition structure that is intended to become a transitional parliament for Russia. The initiative to create the organization came from former State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev. In 2023, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office declared the "Congress of People's Deputies" an undesirable organization.
Before this, in June 2026, 44-year-old Semyon Skrapetsky, an author of anti-Putin cartoons who moved to Poland in 2021, was shot dead in the center of Biała Podlaska. Later, Polish authorities reported the arrest of a suspect in this murder.
