Former President Kocharyan arrested in Armenia

Employees of Armenian law enforcement agencies on the morning of August 25 detained and brought former President Robert Kocharyan to the Anti-Corruption Committee, writes News.am.

Within the framework of criminal proceedings, searches and other procedural actions are being carried out at several dozen addresses. Searches are being conducted at the home of the former president, as well as at the home of his son Levon Kocharyan — a deputy from the "Armenia" bloc.

On Monday, August 24, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan entered into a dispute with Levon Kocharyan. After this, according to Armenian media, Pashinyan ordered the initiation of investigative actions against the Kocharyans.

Robert Kocharyan was the first president of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh (1994—1997), and president of Armenia from 1998—2008. In June, he was forbidden to leave the country. Kocharyan is considered a pro-Russian politician.
