Belaya Rus (White Russia), a pro-Lukashenka NGO held its convention on November 3. The agenda includes the evaluation of the activity in 2007–2012 and adoption of a new charter and programme. However, transforming the NGO into a political party was not on the agenda this year.
“The degustation table of Barysauski meat processing plant is the most popular place among the delegates. Women, however, prefer ice cream and cookies,” says Nasha Niva photo correspondent.
Belaya Rus unite officials, ideology instructors, “representatives of working collectives,” etc. The NGO is organised the same way as the ruling parties in all totalitarian and authoritarian states.
Being a member of such and organisation is an obligatory condition for the career growth of any official.
However, Belaya Rus is an NGO but not a party as parties are senseless within the frameworks the system ruled by a single person. So, Belaya Rus remains the fallback in case the state system is needed to be turned into “directive democracy.”
“We have gained experience of doing political work and carrying out social projects,” Chairperson of Belaya Rus Aliaksandr Radzkou said.
“People have become aware of us and supported us. There are almost 133,000 of us. Members of our organization are active supporters of the president. They represent the pro-presidential majority. Our main purpose is to help Aliaksandr Lukashenka implement his presidential program for the development of the country.”
