Immediately after the opening of the Rokossovsky monument in Gomel, a small doll of a man in a suit appeared on the pedestal, noticed «Flagstaff». In later shots, it was no longer there. Local state resources did not focus on the strange doll, and at first the performance was not clear.
But then, the aide to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Medinsky, who came to Gomel, an ideologue of the «Russian World,» and the head of the Russian Military Historical Society, which «gifted» the monument, revealed the essence of the action on his channel.
Medinsky published a close-up of the doll and wrote:
«Someone from the creative team decided to immediately symbolically remind F. Merz of the shameful end of his predecessor. There is a grain of truth in every joke.»
He is referring to the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz. Against the backdrop of the EU's and, in particular, Germany's support for Ukraine, Russian propaganda portrays modern German officials as heirs of the Nazis.
The doll was specially placed to take a photo under the inscription «Adolf» on the monument's pedestal.
Everything indicates that the provocation was orchestrated by Medinsky's delegation, and it could have been planned at the highest level, the publication writes. After all, without his explanations, no one would have recognized Merz in the mysterious doll and would not have understood the message that Medinsky conveyed. The Russians apparently did not consider it necessary to inform the Gomel authorities about the provocation.
Another manifestation of the «Russian World» that local state resources preferred to ignore was a large banner with a St. George ribbon, a symbol of Russian military aggression. It was held by a group of people standing on the opposite side of Sovetskaya Street.
Previously, such a banner had not been seen among local NOD activists and other supporters of the «Russian World.» It can be assumed that the banner was also placed by the Russians, Flagstock writes.
