"Misses Kyrgyzstan." Lukashenko spoke about Bakiyev's life in Belarus
«Well, it's outrageous that the Kyrgyz people can't allow their president to visit his father's grave.»

Alexander Lukashenko in Bishkek spoke about the life of ex-President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev in Belarus.
"Bakiyev is also living well. It's okay. We won't let him go back to you. I told him: "No trips, enough! Live in Belarus." He lives normally," Lukashenko said in Bishkek, where he is attending the CSTO summit.
Lukashenko says that he sometimes visits Bakiyev when he invites him.
"But he suffers a lot and misses the country. He keeps telling me: I would like to at least visit my father's grave. Well, it's a disgrace that the Kyrgyz cannot allow their president to visit his father's grave. I think we will resolve this issue with the current leadership," Lukashenko added.
Kurmanbek Bakiyev was the President of Kyrgyzstan from 2005 to 2010. After an unsuccessful attempt to suppress the protests, he moved to Belarus, where he received political asylum and, according to media reports, citizenship.
Kyrgyzstan has repeatedly and unsuccessfully demanded Bakiyev's extradition from Minsk - the ex-president has been convicted in absentia in his homeland in a number of criminal cases for abuse of power and other crimes.
In 2025, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov stated that he was negotiating with the Belarusian authorities on the conditions for Bakiyev's possible return to his homeland.
