Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a visit to Great Britain, gave an interview to BBC presenter Laura Kuenssberg. Among other things, Kuenssberg asked Zelenskyy if he was concerned that the conflict in the Middle East would divert people's attention from what is happening in Ukraine.
"I have very uneasy premonitions about the impact of this war on the situation in Ukraine," Zelenskyy replied in English. "America's focus is more on the Middle East than on Ukraine, unfortunately. That's why – you see what. And the reason is one – the war in Iran."
When asked for clarification on how the negotiation process is proceeding these days, Zelenskyy replied: "President Trump is focused on Iran. Negotiating teams are talking among themselves. Our team talks to the American side every day. I know that Americans also talk to the Russians every day."
"The American side, because of this war in Iran, said that it is ready to host both sides in America. We confirmed our participation, but the Russians are against a meeting in the United States of America. Therefore, we are still trying to focus on America, proposing a date and place. Ukraine will support any date and any place, but definitely not in Russia," added the Ukrainian president.
Answering whether Trump's actions have made the world more dangerous, Zelenskyy said: "I won't have a fair answer to that. I try to speak objectively, not subjectively. Therefore, I believe that any split in NATO would weaken both sides."
