A little monkey from Japan touched the whole world with its love for a plush toy

In Japan, a little monkey named Punch has become a true social media star. Users were moved by videos and photos showing the six-month-old animal constantly holding its favorite soft toy — a plush orangutan.

Punch was born in July 2025 at the Ichikawa Zoo. Shortly after his birth, his mother rejected him, so the staff had to care for and feed the little one themselves. To help him feel calmer, he was given blankets and soft toys. And it was the plush orangutan that became his dearest friend.

The videos show Punch hugging the toy while sleeping, carrying it everywhere with him, and holding it tightly when other monkeys appear nearby. According to zoo staff, this makes him feel safe.

Punch is now gradually being introduced to other macaques. He is already starting to settle in and take his first steps towards communication, but he still tries not to part with his toy.

Photos of the little monkey quickly spread online and garnered thousands of comments. Many write that these shots are impossible to watch without emotion, and admit that they want to hug the little one.
