Lukashenka told how Kolya criticized him for switching off the lights
During the government's report for 2025, Alexander Lukashenka once again touched upon the topic of street lighting and said that his policy on this issue was criticized even by his youngest son, Nikolai.

On February 3, Lukashenka expressed dissatisfaction with how street lights are turned on and off. He demanded that lighting work from 8:00 PM to 8:30 AM, although in winter the sun sets earlier and rises later. But when this was implemented the following evening, a wave of criticism arose on social networks, after which Lukashenka was forced to retreat.
Now he said that among the critics of his position was his youngest son, Kolya:
"They turned on the lights, I said — sort it out. They just turned off the lights. Late in the evening, Minsk was plunged into darkness. Why? I didn't demand this from you. Where is the beauty? And all this fell on the president, on the president. I come home, the little one turns it on. Well, why do you need this, he says. Was this really necessary? Well, Ukraine says, well, Belarus. Two holes, he says, in the world. Darkness."
At the same time, he is outraged when they say that he allegedly "backed down":
"They were doing IPSO: 'Ah, he gave the command, you see.' And then, look, they called me a sucker — 'he retreated.' But I neither advanced nor retreated. Well, how long will this continue?"
Vice-Premier Nikolai Snopkov assured Lukashenka that his subordinates are trying hard, although the latter sees no results from their efforts.
